This week, I am writing about Gratitude. Micro-gratitude, that when you let a thought wonder, you find yourself being so grateful to so many.
As we navigate our daily lives, filled with routines and responsibilities, it’s easy to overlook the small moments that bring us joy and fulfilment. Yet, it’s precisely these moments that can have the most significant impact on our lives and the lives of those around us.
The Inspiration Behind this Ponder of Micro-Gratitude
Let me start by saying that I had a little bit of writer’s block today. I looked at lots of thoughts I had journaled in the past week and couldn’t find any inspiration to pass on.
I decided to come away from my desk, sit in the sun, make a cup of tea and have one (or two) of the amazing chocolates Hannah, my daughter and my Hairy-Grand-daughter, Bailey, bought me for Mothers day.
As I sat there, I felt grateful to Hannah, what a lovely gift, she knows I love Hotel Chocolat, and she had ordered the special Mothers Day box. I then found myself thinking of the people that had made the chocolates, in a production line, carefully creating a special moment for their customer. I wanted to thank them.
Suddenly my Ponderings for this week came to life. How do we ensure we deeply feel gratitude? The trail of the joy that is in our life, no matter how small, we discover more reason to be grateful, than purely the act itself.
The Butterfly Effect of Gratitude
“where a small change is supposed to be the cause of larger consequences”.
Our life is made up of so many small trails, and most have never been intentionally created. We have somehow put the right energy into the world, without any awareness of the return.
How does this apply to what Thomas and I dedicate our lives to? We believe in karma, “the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences.” (Hinduism and Buddhism)
The concept of micro-gratitude is akin to the butterfly effect, where minor, seemingly inconsequential actions set off a cascade of positive outcomes. In our complex, fast-paced world, we often pursue grand gestures and significant achievements, overlooking the power of the minutiae. Yet, it is in these details that the essence of life often resides.
Reflecting on the butterfly effect in our daily interactions
I am reminded of the profound impact our smallest gestures can have. A smile, a thoughtful word, a moment of genuine attention, these are the threads that weave the tapestry of our social fabric, reinforcing bonds and fostering a sense of community and belonging.
Micro-Gratitude in Community and Networking
Last week, I pondered with you, the balance between networking and community values. The discussions and feedback revealed a collective yearning for authentic connections, beyond the superficial exchanges that often dominate our professional landscapes. This revelation ties perfectly into this week’s theme of micro-gratitude.
In the context of BIP100, our approach to building a business community emphasises the importance of nurturing deep, meaningful connections.
The Practical Application of Micro-Gratitude
Embracing micro-gratitude means recognising and valuing the small, everyday interactions that enrich our lives. It encourages us to pause, reflect, and appreciate the myriad ways in which others contribute to our happiness and well-being. This practice not only enhances our personal lives but also strengthens our professional relationships, creating a more supportive and collaborative community.
Micro-gratitude moments within a community are abundant.
1. Through a fleeting conversation that healed a thought
2. An idea that was shared
3. The honesty of each other to be truthful about their life that ‘normalises’ the journey’ of business ownership
4.The powerful exchange of connections and referrals
5. The trust placed in using one another as suppliers.
6. The desire to co-create and build something even more impactful than we could do alone
As you go about your week, I encourage you to practice micro-gratitude.
I have always believed that as Business Owners, we are an ecosystem of love and support, empathising with one another, lifting each other up.
In a world that often prioritises efficiency and output over personal connections, micro-gratitude offers a pathway to more fulfilling interactions and a richer, more compassionate community. As we continue to navigate the challenges and opportunities of life, let’s use gratitude as a tool to deepen our connections and enhance our collective well-being.
This week observe the small acts of kindness that occur around you, acknowledge the effort of others, and consider how you can contribute to this cycle of positivity. Whether it’s through a supportive word, taking a moment to thank someone for their help, or simply being present in your interactions, each act of gratitude contributes to a larger culture of appreciation and respect.
