This week, prompted by a sense of negativity in the air, I thought I would share a saying we have in our family “Bad is Good’.
In every life, we all encounter moments that test our strength, shake our foundations, and seemingly steer us off course. Yet, it’s often these very moments that craft our most profound stories of resilience and growth through our innate ability to solve problems, be creative and move forwards.
Here are some notes that I pondered over this weekend.
1. Relentless resilience and purpose – As a family, like many others, we have faced some pretty life changing moments, financial, illnesses, deaths, traumas and disappointments. I believe these challenges, especially the ones experienced by our children when they were young, have definitely inspired the paths they take in life. I marvel at their relentless resilience, and continued determination to make other people’s lives better.
2. Allowing time to be upset. We have also learned as a family to allow grief, disappointment and periods of ‘that’s extremely annoying’. We pause for one another and ensure that we don’t provide platitudes or solutions, we all know that good will happen again, and also know that the mindset of problem solving and creativity will relish these darker moments and the light will come back.
3. A process of elimination – Life is a masterful teacher, using the tool of adversity has helped us shed the layers and constructs that no longer serve us, I call this ‘a process of elimination, ensuring that our lives become concentrated on what was meant for us, and letting go of the things that passed us by.
4. Discovering what truly matters – It’s in the difficulties that we often discover what truly matters—clarifying our values, honing our focus, and sometimes, redirecting our entire journey toward what is genuinely meant for us.
5. Keeping faith during these times isn’t just about hoping for the best; it’s about maintaining a belief in the purposeful unfolding of our lives. It’s about trusting that each setback has a silver lining and that resilience is built not when the path is easy, but when it’s laden with obstacles.
We’ve seen how our toughest times have been pivotal in shaping the ethos and mission of BIP100. Thomas and I have faced our share of trials—business upheavals, personal losses, and the daunting task of redefining success in an ever-changing world. Each challenge forced us to evaluate, adapt, and ultimately, to innovate in ways we might never have considered in times of comfort.
This week, as you navigate your own challenges, I encourage you to view them through the lens of opportunity and faith in your path. Consider how they might be redirecting you towards a more authentic and fulfilling path. Share with us, if you feel moved, how a particularly challenging time provided unexpected blessings in disguise.
Remember, sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us. Let’s keep the faith, embrace the journey, and support each other in the continuous pursuit of growth and happiness. BAD is GOOD.
